The inaugural Wodonga Biggest Ever Blokes Lunch will be held on October 12 at Clubhouse Bar & Bistro, with media personality and former AFL player Billy Brownless a special guest.
Organised by Wodonga Apex Club, the four-hour luncheon will raise money for prostate cancer research and also encourage people to be proactive about their health.
Lunch committee member Wayne McCloskey said Apex nationally had taken on the cause and it certainly suited the Wodonga group.
“We’re all men aged 30 to 50 in our club, so we’re all in that prime target to make sure we’re getting our prostates checked,” he said.
“There will be lots of jokes on the day and puns intended, about the rubber glove, bend over, make sure your doctor doesn’t have a big hand or large fingers, about getting your prostate checked out.”

Since the first Biggest Ever Blokes Lunch in Shepparton nine years ago, 20,000 people have attended similar events, raising more than $2.7 million for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.
Mr McCloskey said the Wodonga lunch would be a day of fun and networking, but with a serious cancer awareness message to impart.
“If more and more blokes open up and talk and make sure that they’re looking after their own health, there’s going to be less people dying of it,” he said.
“That blokes are happy to talk to other blokes and say how’s your health and they’re not embarrassed to talk about it.
“If we can promote men’s health, then we’ve achieved our goal, if we can raise some money at the end of the day as well, that’s just a bonus.”
