The elephant may have been a man in a suit, but Anna Rose says the issues it stands for are very real.
The co-founder of the Australian Youth Climate Coalition addressed Wodonga Senior Secondary College students yesterday and will speak again tonight at Climate Change and Australia’s Clean Energy Future, a forum at the Masonic Centre in Albury.
“The event is an opportunity for the community to discuss how to protect young Australians’ futures from climate change,” she said.
“We focus on young people because it’s their future that will be affected.
“We want them to understand that if you care about your kids or grandkids, climate change is something very important to be aware of.
“It’s the future of young Australians that’s at stake — our health, our economy and our food security.
“We’re asking people to take a step back from the day-to-day politics and reminding them why we need to act in the first place, which is for young Australians.”
The talks and forums are part of a three-month regional tour promoting Ms Rose’s book Madlands: A journey to change the mind of a climate sceptic.
At the forum, she will talk about her travels with one of Australia’s prominent climate sceptics, former finance minister Nick Minchin.
Also speaking will Wodonga coalition representative Lisa Tuck, who will talk about initiatives to reduce the carbon footprint of Border organisations.
The forum and question and answer session will be at the Albury Masonic Centre, Gulpha Street, tonight at 6pm.
