David Flood toppled stable-mate Mitch Palmer to maintain the Adrian Fury-coached group’s strong start to the professional running circuit season.
“I had a couple of quiet years, I had a hip impingement where the ball doesn’t quite move properly with the socket,” he said.
“After the operation I caught the back end of last season and I had the first uninterrupted winter I’ve had in years in terms of injury.
“With Mitch and Carrick (Gill-Vallance) and the other guys there’s a group that’s willing to do the hard work, but an uninterrupted off-season can’t be underestimated.”

- David Flood
It wasn’t Flood’s biggest win though as he claimed the 120m Lithgow Gift in 2013.
The 25-year-old, who’s originally from Coonabarabran in Central West NSW but moved to the Border in 2014, is from a sporting family with sister, Rebecca Artis, competing on the prestigious US LPGA Tour.
Flood will run at Rye on January 12.
