Emergency services were called to the freeway at Glenrowan West about 3.15pm on Wednesday.
The man's prime mover caught on fire and was engulfed by flames.
He suffered burns to his face, hands and legs.
An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said the man, aged in his 50s, was transported to Wangaratta Base Hospital following the incident in a stable condition.
