The weather bureau has put out a warning for the North East advising wind gusts up to 100km/h are likely.
"Damaging winds squalls with peak gusts around 90 km/h to 100 km/h are forecast for the North East this evening and overnight," says the Bureau of Meteorology.
"These will most likely be associated with showers or thunderstorms.
"Wind gusts up to 100 km/h have been recorded this afternoon over parts of the Mallee and Wimmera."
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
- Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.
- Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
- Keep clear of fallen power lines.
