THE Esperance Express is to support men’s health by donating half the income derived from advertising in a forthcoming Movember feature directly to the Movember Foundation.
By placing an advertisement in the Movember feature, Esperance businesses can show their local community that they support men’s health issues, while donating to the Movember Foundation.
Movember is a global initiative that began in Mebourne in 2003, becoming the world's largest men's health movement and the largest non-government financer of prostate cancer globally.
This year marks Movember’s 10-year anniversary.
Movember is a fun and masculine way to educate men about the health risks they face, and to act on that knowledge, thereby increasing the chances of early detection, diagnosis and effective treatment.
From November 1, clean-shaven men cultivate their facial hair into a moustache, as a way to prompt discussion about men’s health issues – a topic often ignored.
Known as ‘Mo Bros’, participants also collect sponsorship from friends, family and community members for their efforts.
The funds raised support the two biggest health issues men face – prostate cancer and mental health.
The Movember Foundation facilitates targeted programs developed in collaboration with their men’s health partners: beyondblue, the national depression and anxiety initiative, and the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.
The programs assist in awareness, education, research and survivorship of men living with prostate cancer or mental health illness and their families.
In total, Australia has raised $3,286,956 through Movember.
