Elysia Reade was driving towards Wodonga on Felltimber Creek Road when she lost control on the freshly graded road shortly after 3pm.
The Toyota Land Cruiser fish-tailed and slammed into a tree, pushing the car onto its side.
Mrs Reade said she climbed out of the passenger window and pulled her three children - Will, 3, Dellah, 19 months, and Hannah, five months - to safety.
All three were uninjured.
Senior Constable Mark Paynter, of Wodonga police, said the trees lining the edge of the road prevented the car from sliding down a bank.
"It stopped her from going down the bank," Sen-Constable Paynter said.
"It could've been a totally different outcome."
