NSW police started their operation after they were alerted to a man having an “inappropriate conversation” with a 15-year-old girl in Illinois in May.
A detective from the sex crimes squad’s child exploitation internet unit posing as a 14-year-old girl took part in a number of online and phone conversations with the man in late June and early July.
Police will allege the conversations between the two were sexually explicit.
They raided a home in Thurgoona about 7am yesterday and seized a number of items for forensic testing including computer equipment.
The high school teacher, 45, was arrested at the home and was taken to Albury police station where he was charged.
