Police say the girl and her friend, a 15-year-old girl, were walking home from Birallee along Melrose Drive about 8pm last night when a 300 millilitre bottle was thrown from a car.
It landed a short distance from the girls and exploded.
Police later found the bottle contained a mixture of chloride and brake fluid.
While the girls were last night uninjured, police say the chemical mix could cause serious injury.
The car in question carried three males and a female.
