About six centimetres of snow fell on Falls Creek as temperatures dipped to -1.7 degrees early this morning.
The temperature did not pass five degrees until shortly after 3pm this afternoon.
The wintry blast hasn't been restricted to the mountains. Albury has reached 20 degrees but gusty winds have kept the apparent temperature below 13.
But the cold snap won't last; temperatures will start returning to average levels tomorrow before a hot and overcast Saturday, when most of the region is expected to reach 36 degrees.
