Some had never seen it.
But they all knew the songs.
It seems no matter your age, everyone knows the classics from the 1959 Broadway production, such as Edelweiss and Do-Re-Mi.
Daniel Kurmann, 8, spent the early hours of Saturday morning before his audition watching the 1965 film, starring Julie Andrews.
“I thought I’d watch it this morning, just to refresh,” the Wodonga boy said in the waiting room before his audition.
Director of the Albury-Wodonga Theatre Company Joseph Thomsen said with more than 100 people booked in to audition over the weekend, it was the largest turnout any musical had seen in the past eight years.
“You can’t go wrong with The Sound of Music,” he said.
“It’s obviously still a great favourite and hopefully given the amount of people auditioning, that will translate to audience interest.”
More than 19 hours was spent auditioning people on Saturday and Sunday, with judges holding call-back auditions today to finalise the cast.
The Sound of Music will be performed at the Albury Entertainment Centre from April 11 to 14.
