Ticket sales have been strong for several blockbuster new-release movies, according to manager Doug Henderson.
Peter Jackson’s film adaptation of The Hobbit, the screen version of Les Miserables and children’s movie Wreck It Ralph have been smash hits. The Hobbit was Australia’s biggest Boxing Day release on record at $5.9 million.
“We had 1500 pre-sale tickets for The Hobbit,” Mr Henderson said.
“Its gold class screenings are sold out for three weeks.”
The popularity of tickets as Christmas gifts made this year the centre’s best Boxing Day since the Lord of The Rings films.
“Sale of Gold Class packages were up 50 per cent,” he said.
“We had people lining up at 8am on Boxing Day.”

Rodney Van Lieshout, in Albury to visit family, was at the centre to see Les Miserables and his daughter, Stephanie, gave it rave reviews.
“It was interesting to see the cast in different role than they usually play,” she said.
“I thought Anne Hathaway was outstanding.”
Marion Hagan and her daughter, Melinda Acar, were also there to see Les Miserables.
“We saw the stage version so we’re interested to see the screen adaptation,” Mrs Hagan said.
“Plus, it doesn’t hurt to spend an afternoon looking at Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe.”
Skyfall was the choice of Brad Dalbosco and Tim Smith, both 15.
“He’s James Bond, what other reason do we need?” Brad said.
