Sad end to search for missing man

THE search for missing Myrtleford man Trenton Sacco has ended in sadness for his family, with police yesterday confirming a body found on Mount Buffalo on Christmas Day is that of the 24-year-old.

He was last seen at his parents’ home on October 17.

Yesterday evening police confirmed they had found the remains of the former Marian College student at the base of the north wall of the gorge.

His death is not being treated as suspicious.

Mr Sacco’s family has been unwilling to speak publicly about efforts to find their son and brother.

Last month police said Mr Sacco’s parents were extremely worried about the whereabouts of their youngest son.

Detective Sen-Constable Paul Campbell said Mr Sacco had lived with his parents at their Myrtleford home.

“It’s so unexpected,” Sen-Constable Campbell said.

They just don’t know why he’d get up and leave, he didn’t leave any notes or indications he was going.

“He’s a very quiet, unassuming person who pretty much kept to himself.

“It’s out of character for him to do something like this.”

On Christmas Day a rock climber discovered Mr Sacco’s body about 30 metres from a cliff face.

The climber, who was camping in the area, notified local police of his find the following morning.

He had hurt his shoulder while abseiling down the steep cliff face and he was unable to climb back up.

The area is a well-known destination for rock climbers and abseilers who scale the sheer cliffs on the mountain.

On Wednesday night search and rescue police trekked two hours into the bush to recover the body, which was flown to Melbourne for examination by officers of the Coroner’s Court.
