New North Albury coach Akermanis and Albury’s Morris medallist Mackie, both pictured, made guest appearances in the consolation final of the Cricket Albury-Wodonga Charity Big Bash at Lavington Oval last night.
And, in what the Hoppers are hoping isn’t a sign of things to come in football season, it was Mackie who came out on top with his Wodonga Prestige Turbos beating Akermanis’ Insight Clinic Privates by six wickets.
The pair claimed each other’s scalps with the ball but not before Mackie had sent Akermanis for a huge six in one of the highlights of the night.
Meanwhile, in the main event, the Tradelink Hurricanes downed the Ray White Albury Stars with one ball remaining to clinch a six-wicket win.
Chasing 156 for victory, the Hurricanes were always on track thanks to Trent Ball (40) and Robbie Jackson (31).
Earlier, North Albury’s Josh Mallichan (47 not out) and Ash Borella (40) helped the Stars post a competitive total.
