The Holden VT Commodore station wagon was a customer’s car stolen from a mechanics in Ford Street, Beechworth, at 10.30pm on Monday, police said.
The premises was one of three businesses hit by the thieves.
Cash, a briefcase, iPhone and magnetic field reader were among the goods stolen.
A person recognised the stolen Commodore parked in Corrys Road, Thurgoona, from an article in The Border Mail yesterday detailing the burglaries and phoned police.
Wodonga detectives combed the car for clues yesterday.
Detective Sgt Graeme Simpfendorfer said the car was dumped sometime between 11pm on Monday and 6am on Tuesday.
It was not damaged on the outside but the glove box was ripped open.
Property, including jewellery and car keys not belonging to the vehicle, was found inside.
None of the property stolen from the businesses was found.
Sgt Simpfendorfer said the car would be further checked for fingerprints and DNA.
He believed the suspects must have had another vehicle in the area or had another person pick them up.
He said Albury police were now assisting with the investigation.
Another car, a white Mazda van stolen from Cadell Street in East Albury, was found on Monday night in Church Street, Beechworth.
Sgt Simpfendorfer said detectives were also awaiting results of forensic testing on that vehicle.
He asked anyone who saw the burgundy VT Commodore on Monday night to phone police.
Anyone with information on the burglaries is also asked to phone.
