A Coolamon woman, 51, was driving through the township on the Olympic Highway when, as she approached the intersection of Hopetoun Street, she struck something on the road, police reported.

The accident happened about 1.30am.

Police were called after the man, who has since been identified as Daniel Hansen, was discovered deceased after apparently laying on the roadway.

The woman was taken to Culcairn Hospital for mandatory drug and urine tests and a crime scene was established.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

Police investigating the matter are appealing for members of the public who may have information relating to the death of Mr Hansen to come forward by calling Albury police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
