The WDCA fell 61 runs short in its run chase against Gisborne at Princes Park and will now turn its attention to today’s clash against Campaspe and Kyabram District at Sunshine.
“It probably makes it hard to go up but the aim now is to hopefully win tomorrow and try to avoid relegation and go from there,” Braden said.
Gisborne’s decision to bat after winning the toss proved the right one, with Mark Ryan (61) leading the side to a mammoth 274.
Rutherglen’s Nathan Thomas and Bruck’s Jon Hyde were the pick of the WDCA bowlers.
All-rounder Hyde then made a half century but the WDCA fell short, finishing 8-213.
“We were 5-18 and that didn’t help things,” Braden said.
“In the end it wasn’t a bad result.
“They bowled pretty well in the first 10 overs.
“That was probably the difference in the game.”
Meanwhile, Benalla and District Cricket Association lost to Bairnsdale by eight wickets at Brunswick in division 2.
Captain Andrew Squires top-scored with 42 in the BDCA’s 153, with Bairnsdale reaching 7-229 in reply thanks to a brilliant 98 from Hayden Erfurth.
The BDCA plays Traralgon and District at Windy Hill today.
