MARK Webb’s letter to the editor (The Border Mail, June 13) states that “carbon dioxide is not a pollutant but is an essential gas for the growth of all plant life”.
I agree that it is an essential gas.
But I would like to point out that it’s possible to have too much of a good thing. Think wine, dark chocolate, fertiliser, antibiotics or rain.
While all these things are beneficial in moderation, too much of them is a bad thing.
The same goes for carbon dioxide; essential in our atmosphere at certain levels, dangerous when it exceeds these levels.
