Falcons smash Wodonga for six

A STELLAR five-goal performance in the second half saw Falcons blow Wodonga out of the water yesterday.

The comfortable 6-0 win came out of nowhere after Falcons went into the break with just a one-goal buffer thanks to hat-trick hero Clint Henderson.

Both goalkeepers, Ben Martin and Will Nunn, stood tall in the first half but Martin had his work cut out in the second half as Falcons continually peppered the defence.

Mick Newsham doubled the Falcons’ advantage soon after the interval before Lachlan Battison and Henderson added four more between them.

Falcons sit on top of the ladder after four rounds.

Elsewhere, another blistering performance after half-time proved the catalyst in United’s five-goal thrashing of Beechworth.

Beechworth managed to keep United scoreless in the first half but was put to the sword after half-time.

In other matches, Magpies beat Wombats 3-1.

In the women’s draw, Wombats had a comfortably 5-0 win over United.

Four first-half goals set up the win, with Naree Burkett’s powerful hitting off short corners proving unstoppable.

United lifted after the break.

Brooke Martin did a great job for them at half back while Chloe Jones and Jade Versteegen were Wombats’ best players in the win.

In the other games, Magpies defeated Wodonga 3-0 and Falcons won a hard fought match against Norths 4-2.
