Melbourne Heart is believed to be close to brokering a deal with Football Federation Australia officials that would see it play Perth Glory on February 9.
It is believed the round 18 clash would be played at the Albury Sportsground or Lavington Oval.
Melbourne Heart chief executive officer Scott Munn confirmed yesterday the club was keen to play in the country but declined to elaborate.
“We have the possibility of staging a regional match next February and are currently in advanced discussions with the federation,” Munn said.
“We will hopefully make some announcements in the next couple of weeks on that.”
The A-League draw was released yesterday with Melbourne Heart’s clash against Perth Glory announced at a venue yet to be confirmed.
Albury Council has been in talks with the federation about hosting a home-and-away match in Albury since last year and hopes its strong connection with Melbourne Heart, which played an AWFA representative side in an exhibition match on the Border, will get the match over the line.
Former Twin City striker Zac Walker is in the Heart’s squad.
The A-League season will start on October 11 and run until May 4.
Melbourne Heart has eight Friday night fixtures, including five at home.
