THREE from three is the Steamers record after Ash Lefevre, James Olds and Scott Meakins were key in the Southern Inland Rugby Union domination of the Brumbies Provincial Championship for the second successive year.
The SIRU representative squad took the title after a 28-5 win over Monaro at Bateman’s Bay yesterday.
All three Steamers were later selected in the Brumbies Provincial squad from the carnival.
Coach Mick Small said it was an outstanding performance in a physical game, highlighting Ash Lefevre as one of the standouts.
“His go forward around the rucks and defence were enormous,” he said.
“We only conceded one try all weekend and that was partly due to his work rate.
“All three of the Albury boys played well and all three were selected in the Brumbies provincial squad.”
The versatile Olds was again among the points.
“He’s quick and can kick — I think it was two conversions and two penalties from five attempts today,” Small said.
Yesterday’s win followed a seven-try victory over South Coast on Sunday where Olds crossed the try-line and kicked three conversions.
Small said after soaking up the best South Coast could offer, SIRU surged to a 19-0 lead at half-time before giving the home team a football lesson in the second half running out winners 43-0.
