A 51-year-old pilot has died at the scene of a plane crash at Boxwood north of Benalla just after 6pm tonight.

Victoria Police believe the single-engine Cirrus SR22 aircraft struck trees on approach to a private airstrip and crashed just off the runway.
Police understand the man is from Boxwood and was returning from Moorabbin Airport.
The Civil Aviation Safety Authority and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau have been notified and police are investigating the incident and will prepare a report for the coroner.
