After two weeks of trials, AWFA has announced a squad of 18 for the rep clashes to be played as curtain raisers to the W-league and A-League Melbourne Victory matches in early January.
It includes the competition’s star players from the past five years and perennial golden boot Alicia Torcaso.
But it also welcomes back Christina Mancuso, Jessica Thomas and Zoe Corbett who have been playing in higher leagues in Melbourne.
The games are seen as part selection trials for those also aspiring to the W-League.
Coach Peter Hovar said the players would go through a series of drills with the Melrose men tonight.
“We need to get them ready mentally and physically for a game that will be played at a faster pace and greater intensity,” Hovar said.
“A series of drills — attack against defence, defence against attack — up against the men.
“It’s Melrose tomorrow night and hopefully we get some other men’s teams to help out in the coming weeks.”
Hovar said, with a few exceptions, the squad included the league’s best players.
“We couldn’t be happier with the mix,” he said.
“We have youth and experience and great depth across the park.
“We also have several players who have been playing in the women’s premier league in Melbourne coming into the side.”
The All-Stars team will play the best from the WPL.
This is the next tier down from the national league and a feeder into the W-League, and two other association teams on January 4.
