The twilight event at Diamond Park Speedway on Saturday week, will give racing fans the chance to see the unorthodox speedway event first hand.

Sidecar racing requires the pillion passenger to play a vital role in getting the bike safely around the track.

The passenger must change positions quickly at exactly the right time to provide momentum, especially on high-speed turns.

Managing director and television host of Speedway Racing News David Tapp said the race series would bring great excitement to the Border.

“Sidecar racing is arguably the world’s most dangerous racing sport,” Tapp said.

“The 1040cc bikes have loads of horsepower, none of the bikes have brakes, and you’ve got guys clinging to the side of them racing on a dirt track.

“It’s unbelievable.”

Sidecar racing is popular in many countries, and Border fans will see a host of riders from England and New Zealand, as well as Australia’s finest.

Australian sidecar champion and former world champion Darrin Treloar said he is looking forward to his first visit to the Border.

“I’ve not been to the Albury venue before but I’ve heard that the track will be very fast,” Treloar said.

“Given the fact the series has never visited Diamond Park Speedway previously, no rider will have an advantage over another.

“It’s a new track for all of us and I can’t wait to cut loose.

“It is a very tough field featuring the world’s best riders and I have no doubt the Albury round will be a cracker.”
