Plans were on display and council staff answered questions about the works, due to be completed by July.
Resident Julie Quin said while the work was “a bloody pain in the neck right now, it would be well worth it in the end”.
“It will give us a central business district for the first time,” she said.
Kathy Gamber said she was there to get a better idea of the city’s future.
“I wanted to hear what they have to say about Wodonga,” she said.
“It will be fantastic once it’s finished.”
Wodonga retiree Alan Sang said business would suffer until the works finished, because shoppers didn’t want to walk.
But he was happy with the plans.
“You drive through Albury and it’s an absolute nightmare there,” he said.
“This will open the town right up.”
