Detective Sen-Constable Justin Foots said the man, 55, was yesterday charged with arson and breaching an intervention order after he was arrested at his Wodonga workplace.
He was remanded in custody to appear before the Wodonga Magistrates Court today.
He said accelerant was used to set fire to the house on January 10, which was the home of a mother and her two children who were not there at the time.
The fire caused at least $450,000 in damages.
