As part of Soccer Australia’s push to have a unified coaching system for the country, the second most capped national player will lead the Saturday and Sunday sessions ahead of the A-League clash between Melbourne Heart and Perth Glory.
Under-15 rep players from the past two years will take part in the clinic at the Albury Sportsground.
Originally designed for those mentors on the advanced coaching pathway, the sessions have now been opened up to all coaches.
The main focus will be the 4-3-3 style of play and the variations that can be used in that system.
Albury-Wodonga Football Association’s Steve Hayes said it was a great coup to get the clinic to the Border.
“Many of us have been pushing for these events being decentralised from Sydney and Melbourne with a greater focus on country football,” he said.
“And you are hearing it from an absolute legend of the game — a man who can back up the theory with international experience.
“This is about playing the same game throughout the nation, developing a football culture.
“For the coaches on the advanced pathway this makes up half of the demands of keeping their accreditation, and for those on the community coaching pathway it will renew their accreditation.
“Many coaches have let their development slip because of the travel involved and this is the perfect opportunity to update your qualifications with valuable accreditation points and view the latest methodologies in coaching.”
The two-day clinic will be held from 8.30am on Saturday and the cost includes morning tea, afternoon tea and lunch along with entry to the A-League game.
More than 30 people are already registered, with Hayes hoping to double that number this week.
Details or registrations can be obtained by visiting awfa.asn.au or by calling Steve Hayes on 0412 576 274.
