Football Federation Australia officials made the decision this morning after monitoring the Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT), which takes factors such as air temperature, humidity, wind and radiation into consideration.
Widely regarded as "world's best practice", the WBGT was considered an accurate indicator of the risk of heat-related injuries to players. .
FOX Sports has confirmed they will still broadcast the match live at 5pm on Fox Sports 3.
The Newcastle Jets v Wellington Phoenix match, which also kicks off at 5pm, will be broadcast simultaneously on FOX Sports 1.
10.55AM: Albury Councilk says gates at Lavington Oval will still open at 1pm, with spectators encouraged to enjoy pre-planned festivities.
Live music, performances and the Westpac Kids Zone will operate as normal and they city's events team leader, Ros Walls, said measures were in place to help fans beat the heat.
"“Misting fans and 72 metres of additional shading have been set up around the Lavington Sports Ground,” she said. “Ice creams, cold drinks and food is available all day. If anything the rescheduled kick off simply means that the party is going to go a little later into the evening.”
“If you’re intending to come to today’s match you’ve got the option to enjoy the air conditioning at home a little bit longer before coming down to Lavington at 5pm for Albury’s biggest ever sporting event.”
