And with chants such as “you’re not going to Rio Harry Kewell” and “does it feel cold in Victory’s shadow” perhaps Melbourne Heart players wish they didn’t.
But fan Renee Pozzi, of the Perth suburb of Woodvale, said it was all in good fun.
“It’s generally giving them hell,” she said as her friends taunted Heart reserve keeper Tando Velaphi with “Glory reject”.
“Banter is part of the game.
“I just think after the game it’s not acceptable.”
As police walked past, Ms Pozzi told them the group had had some “unwanted interaction” with some Heart fans.
She was told they’d be looked after.
The fans said they weren’t fazed by the heat, as the weather was similar in Perth.
“We’ll do our best to be loud for the whole 90 minutes,” Ms Pozzi said.
The Perth-based fans were also joined by others from Melbourne.
Justin Brown, of Mulgrave, who has supported Perth Glory since he was seven, said he drove up with eight fellow supporters.
“It’s really cool because being an interstate supporter it can get lonely at times,” he said.
“I really enjoy the time being with a large size of us.”
The Melbourne Heart cheer squad refused to speak to the media.
