A Wodonga man, 23, will front Wodonga Magistrates Court today charged with the theft of $450 at the city’s High Street post office last Tuesday.
The money had been left on the counter inside a deposit book while a customer posted a package.
The money had been collected from the offering plates at the Anglican Church of Yackandandah.
The man, arrested in a car in Brockley Street on Sunday, was also charged with reckless conduct endangering serious injury, driving in a manner dangerous and evading police in relation to the pursuit in central Wodonga.
He was remanded in custody.
Sen-Constable Troy Bakic said the arrest came after police tried to pull over a Toyota Camry in Wigg Street at 3.30pm for a routine check.
He said the car sped off, allegedly travelling up to 90km/h in the 50km/h residential zone, turning into Brockley Street.
Sen-Constable Bakic said the car was travelling on the wrong side of the road when it went through the Mitchell Street roundabout.
It hit a kerb, stopped and then began to reverse into the police car behind.
Sen-Constable Bakic said he jumped out and arrested the driver, who had two passengers.
Police said the pursuit went for less than a minute over a distance of about 600 metres.
The Wodonga man was also charged with a police pursuit in November after a car failed to stop in Thomas Mitchell Drive, when requested by police.
