Read, 45, of Pioneer Drive, was convicted by magistrate Megan Greenwood in Albury Local Court in October.
But Ms Greenwood dismissed two other charges of possessing a prohibited weapon and not surrendering a prohibited weapon without authority to possess it.
She said police had been unable to prove those charges beyond reasonable doubt.
Ms Greenwood convicted Read and imposed an $1100 fine on the other charge, but a severity appeal was lodged.
The case proceeded before Judge Ross Letherbarrow with solicitor Paul Robb tendering a transcript of Ms Greenwood’s comments.
Judge Letherbarrow varied the penalty to a 12-month bond without conviction.
