A WOMAN had her car impounded after Wangaratta police clocked her travelling at 97km/h in a 40km/h zone in Everton on Tuesday.

Officers from the Wangaratta highway patrol detected the 27-year-old Craigieburn resident travelling at almost 60km/h over the speed limit on the Great Alpine Road just after 2.30pm.
The incident occurred in near Everton Primary School, just as the first parents were beginning to arrive to collect their children.
The woman told police she had been on her way home from visiting her boyfriend and sped up to overtake a truck.
Her Mitsubishi Lancer was impounded on the spot for 30 days and she is expected to be charged on summons with dangerous driving and exceed the speed limit.
Police dropped her off at the Wangaratta train station to complete her journey back to Melbourne.
