It comes as the Lachlan Valley Railway Historical Society announces its southern NSW steam tour will include Albury next month.
“It’s been too long since the sound and smell of steam engines have graced the Border,” Cr Jackson said.
“The tour is a great way for residents to relive an important part of Albury’s railway history.”
Residents will be taken back in time when shuttles depart Albury for Gerogery on Saturday, March 15, at 9am, 11.30am and 2.10pm.
The tour is being run with the assistance of the Powerhouse Museum, which will provide steam locomotive 3265.
This particular locomotive powered NSW’s crack express passenger trains between 1892 and 1911.
They continued in service until the end of the steam era in the 1970s.
In conjunction with the steam event, a car display from 8.30am to 2pm will also be held on the Saturday with a barbecue at the Albury Railway Station.
Then on Sunday, a day trip to Junee has been organised from 9.30am and returns just after 6pm with more than two hours allowed for lunch in Junee.
Day trip fares cost $90 adult, $40 children and $199 for a family of four.
Shuttle fares are $35 adult, $20 children 4-16 years and $99 for a family of four.
Tickets are available during business hours at Soden's Hotel.
The Lachlan Valley Railway is the same rail preservation society working with Cr Jackson to establish the proposed Albury Rail Heritage Centre.
Cr Jackson is at the point of raising awareness and funds to support his idea of a museum.
“With an emphasis on rolling stock, we are looking at getting a 1950s diesel rail motor to restore as part of the museum project,” he said.
“Some of the funds from the train trips and events at the station will go towards this project.”
