Former Carlton stars Brendan Fevola, Matthew Lappin and Ryan Houlihan, pictured, are just a handful of names that will feature in the match in support of Ricky Bannister.
Fevola said the aim was to raise as much money as possible.
“Hopefully we can, as well as have a bit of fun,” he said.
“It’s a great cause and there should be plenty of people there.
“Obviously Rick is having some troubles and we thought this would be a good way to help him and his family.”
Bannister suffered a life-changing fall from a horse in April last year that left him a C5 quadriplegic and fighting for his life in the Austin Hospital’s intensive care unit.
He is the brother of present AFL umpire and former Essendon and Carlton midfielder Jordan.
Brad Fisher, Richard Champion, and former Essendon pair Mark and Jason Johnson are also poised to pull on the boots this afternoon and it had been hoped North Melbourne champion Wayne Carey and Essendon great Matthew Lloyd were going to play but they have withdrawn.
There will be a kids’ clinic and autograph session from noon, with an auction after the game.
The match at the J.C. Lowe Oval starts at 2pm and will be broadcast on 101.3 OAKFM from 1.30pm.
