Albury Racing Club's Myer Fashions on the Field co-ordinator Sarah Crothers says she's always impressed by the effort women and girls go to with many planning months in advance what they will wear on cup day.
"It's a great day out and naturally everyone wants to look their best," Ms Crothers says.
"The hard thing about choosing an outfit for the Albury Cup as it is in between seasons -- it's all about autumn racewear now but at times it is so hot -- then you have the other extremes and it's often quite cold."
Ms Crothers says this year judges will be looking for fashions suited to autumn racing.
The well-dressed financial planner, who loves racing, also knows what it is like to be on the catwalk and experience that winning feeling.
She has impressed judges with various outfits at race meetings.
Ms Crothers' most memorable moment was taking home $10,000 when she won Best Dressed Lady of the Day at a major Perth race meeting. Her advice to racegoers is simple.
"I would say always err on the side of elegance balanced with current fashion trends," she says.
Ms Crothers loves the process of searching for fabric, having an outfit made, selecting accessories and seeing a milliner.
"It's very satisfying when it all comes together and you are happy with everything and feel good," she says.
Something that she says is often overlooked by entrants is deportment.
"Knowing how to walk and carry a dress makes such a difference," she says.
She also advises entrants to take their time in the spotlight and enjoy the moment. "Judges need time to have a good look at you so they can see your outfit from all sides, so don't be in a rush," she says.
Ms Crothers also enjoys the racing side of cup day.
"I grew up around race meetings as my grandfather and uncles have been heavily involved in racehorses," she says.
Chic fashion and classic accessories are the order of the day.
"I love getting dressed up and feeling like a princess," she says.
"It's a great time to wear your best dress and a beautiful hat."
This year's fashion trends include autumn colours, leather, felt and faux fur and millinery is a must. The good news is this year, as well as prizes for the winners and runners up in the three major categories, finalists will also receive a Myer gift bag.
The judges:
Melbourne milliner Brett Morley, Albury's style expert Alex Faulkner and two surprise Myer guest judges. Louise Arnold will emcee the Fashions on the Field.

This year's Albury Gold Cup Myer Fashions on the Field will offer prizes worth more than $20,000.
The categories:
The three categories are Myer Millinery, Myer Lady of the Day and Myer Gentleman of the Day.
