The black Jeep was parked at a building site behind a Calimo Street factory for weeks before it was targeted about 11.45pm Tuesday night.
Albury firefighters ext- inguished the blaze after cutting the fence to gain access.
Albury police inspector David Cottee said they were treating the incident as arson.
“It’s obviously dangerous to light a car on fire, for those lighting it and those putting it out, the injuries could be quite serious,” he said.
Inspector Cottee said nearby residents and houses were also put at risk.
He said the car’s Albury owner had been located.
The factory has recently been bought and is in the process of being renovated.
