Following in the footsteps of Epsom winner Fat Al, the Waterhouse-trained gelding scored a $50,000 bonus on top of its winnings because it was bought at the Inglis sales.
Fat Al, now trained by Peter Moody, took out the race in 2012 under Waterhouse before winning the Epsom at Randwick later that year. Ryker ($9.50) was recently gelded and winning jockey Tim Clark said it looked to have done wonders for the promising three-year-old that cost $425,000.
“It was good to see the horse really attack the line like he did because he’s a horse that’s shown a lot during work,” he said.
“His performances on race day didn’t really reflect the work at home.
“Since the gelding operation, hopefully that’s the turning point and he can go on and win plenty of races.”
Just A Blur ($10) flashed home to pinch second, well ahead of Without A Shadow.
