Price Of Glory ($51) produced the best run of his career when he went within a nose of causing a huge boilover in the $170,000 feature taken out by Canny Ballad.
The five-year-old gelding also finished fourth in the race last year when beaten less than half-a-length by stablemate Niblick.
Price Of Glory is owned and bred by Albury Racing Club committeeman Dick Sloane, alongside retired builder Colin Stuart and was ridden by Linda Meech.
“It just makes you wonder how good the horse is when they say it’s the greatest Albury Cup they have ever seen,” Cavanough said.
“But that’s the great part about racing is you can have all the well bred horses and then Dick Sloane bred Price Of Glory with Colin Stuart in the hills of Table Top and they nearly win an Albury cup.”
Cavanough, who won the race on protest last year, said he never considered protesting after there was plenty of interference straightening for home.
“All the action was behind us,” he said.
