Loy steered the well backed Chosen Song ($4.60) to victory in the Protector Allsafe Mile (1600m) for his new master Bede Murray.
The teenager, who started his career with his father Norm at Albury, is now indentured to the Kembla Grange veteran.
“He showed a bit of initiative out there today,” Murray said after the race.
“We thought that she would have been in the first half of the field but not roll so far forward but the way the race panned out he didn’t have a choice.
Chosen Song held on to beat the fast finishing Brett Cavanough-trained Ceccanti ($8) with $3.20 favourite Sand Dunes a head away third.
Loy made a semi-holiday of the carnival.
“I had a choice of sitting three deep in the middle of the field or letting her roll forward under her own steam and settle behind the leader,” he said.
“It’s great to win a race back here in front of friends and family on what is Albury’s biggest race day.”
