But the city did win three awards at the Keep Australia Beautiful ceremony in South Australia last night.
The Energy Innovation award was accepted by Wangaratta Community Pride Committee chairwoman Margaret Pullen, Milawa Heritage Group deputy chairman John Brown, and Wangaratta youth mayor Zoe Stinson.
The trio accepted the award on behalf of the city for the Eco Living Centre.
National Tidy Towns judge Dick Olesinski said the Eco Living Sustainable Communities project helped the community achieve sustainability by fostering community awareness and behaviour change.
Engagement with the community included practical demonstrations and education workshops.
Wangaratta was also highly commended for Resource Recovery and Waste Management and tied for a highly commended in Water Conservation with Titjikala, in the Northern Territory.
