THEY stormed in armed with a gun and a knife, masks and a mouthful of bad manners.
But what they didn’t count on was the stubborn, chair-throwing nature of at least one drinker.
Strike Force Glidden detectives have released closed circuit television footage of the moments two men attempted to rob the Bull & Bush Hotel at Medowie on April 10 in the hope of hunting down one of the perpetrators.
The strike force, comprised of Port Stephens detectives and investigators from the Robbery and Serious Crime Squad, have already made several arrests as they look into the attempted Medowie heist and at least four other hold-ups across the Hunter.
They allege one of the Bull & Bush bandits and a getaway driver are already in custody charged over the robbery. But there is still one outstanding.
The image clearly shows the two robbers run through the front doors of the hotel before confronting one of the bar staff and threaten him with the gun.
Enter Port Stephens councillor Chris Doohan.
As the bandits continue their tirade, Cr Doohan comes at them with a chair, hurling it at the gunman before both robbers flee, with the councillor behind them.
The plea came a day after Strike Force Glidden investigators raided a Raymond Terrace home and took two men into custody on gun and ammunition charges.
The raid on the Jessica Close residence on Tuesday allegedly netted a double-barrel shotgun and a .22 calibre rifle as well as ammunition.
A 56-year-old man was charged with possessing an unauthorised firearm and ammunition while a 30-year-old was charged with those two offences as well as a drug supply charge.
Police will allege they also uncovered a quantity of methamphetamine at the house.
