So it is not surprising Rivalea has launched an immediate investigation into the disturbing content of a video that has found its way into the media via a new animal rights organisation, Aussie Farms.
Aussie Farms has said the footage was taken at the Rivalea’s Corowa abattoir, showing excessive use of an electric prodder and the kicking of an animal by an abattoir employee.
The footage has been referred to police and they expect to work with the RSPCA to investigate the claims.
While it is true the use of secret cameras may be the only way in which cruel practices might be brought to public attention, it is also the case that those who used the cameras have broken the law and trespassed on the company’s property.
There would also be concerns about the publication of cruelty claims alongside video of other animal husbandry practices regarded as industry standard.
These are claims that need to be fully investigated by Rivalea and other agencies with the results made public.
