12.14AM: Police are calling for public assistance after a burglar broke into a Cobram family home and drowned their cat.

Cobram detectives said a burglar was believed to have entered the Punt Road house through a rear door between 8.15am and 9am today.
The house was ransacked and the offender drowned the family's pet cat, Puss Puss.
The cat's body was found by a distressed member of the family after she returned home.
No one was home at the time of the burglary and police believe nothing was stolen.
A man has been seen loitering around the area over the past few days and Cobram detectives believe he may be able to assist with their investigations.
The man is described as Caucasian with a fair complexion, blonde scruffy long hair, a beard and moustache.
He had a thin build, was 165-170cm tall and looked to be aged in his 20s.
