Police have confirmed the money reported stolen from the High Street Shell service station has been recovered and charges are expected to follow.
The bizarre admission comes after police were called to the service station this morning to investigate an alleged armed hold-up by two men.
Police were told the bandits had entered the building at about 1am, threatened an attendant with a handgun and demanded cash.
It was then alleged that the pair fled the scene in a vehicle.
The Victoria Police armed offenders squad had been called to the scene from Melbourne this morning.
Full details in tomorrow's paper.
