Bureau of Meteorology records indicate Albury-Wodonga copped most of the storm this morning with exactly 25mm falling since 9am.
This was followed by 21mm in Rutherglen, 12mm in Wangaratta, 8mm in Yarrawonga and just 2mm in Corowa.
Technical officer Robbie Lennard said while the main front appeared to have cleared, there could be more showers developing later tonight.
"There's definitely a lull at the moment but there's still some cold, unstable air and a trough further behind so we could have more precipitation developing later on," he said.
"At this stage it's best to go by the day's original weather forecast - showers easing to rain at times tonight."
A severe weather warning for residents in the North East remains in place, with wind gusts of up to 100kmh predicted at higher elevations.
