OVERWHELMING was the word Yarrawonga resident Lorna Martin used to describe receiving an Order of Australia Medal.

Mrs Martin, 85, has been involved in many org-anisations including the Yarrawonga Mulwala RSL Women’s Auxiliary, Yarra-wonga Legacy Widows Club, Yarrawonga Senior Citizens Club and a range of sporting clubs.
When asked why she enjoyed volunteering her time, she replied: “I enjoy helping people.”
“It’s overwhelming to receive this award,” she said. “I am humbled and excited.”
Mrs Martin explained volunteering had always been natural for her.
“You don’t do it to receive something in return,” she said.
The great grandmother has lived in Yarrawonga most of her life where she raised four children with her late husband, Harry.
In previous years she has been a catering officer at the Yarrawonga Senior Citizens Clubs and president of the Yarrawonga Mulwala RSL Women’s Auxiliary from 2000-13.
She was also foundation president of the Yarrawonga Legacy Widows Club from 1992-2002.
