It said some staff might have different roles and responsibilities, with the proviso they worked to clearer performance expectations more closely aligned to the university’s strategy.
La Trobe hoped to have most of its reforms in place before the start of the next academic year.
Professor John Dewar said the university would follow all industrial processes set out in the uni’s collective agreement.
“We remain committed to our presence in regional Victoria, to offering out students a quality education, producing the highest standards of research and intellectual inquiry, and encouraging equitable access to a university education from all works of life,” he said.
But education union president Virginia Mansel Lees said the university was trying to “get rid of a whole bunch of staff” under the guise of buzz words such as flexibility.
