Scammell will take over the leadership role from Mitch Ryan with the Rangers likely to announce several signings for the Cricket Albury-Wodonga district season in coming weeks.
It will be the long-time New City player’s first crack at senior coaching.
“I’m looking forward to it,” Scammell said yesterday.
“We start training on the first Sunday in August and I can’t wait to get into it.”
Besides New City, Scammell also spent a decade with Canberra club Queanbeyan and a season with Tallangatta and Wodonga Raiders.
Baranduda president Mick Hardman said Scammell would bring plenty of experience to the Rangers.
“His experience is invaluable,” Hardman said.
“He’s a long-time Provincial player and from that point of view it provides us with a rock to build around.”
Baranduda dodged the wooden spoon last season when it defeated Dederang in the penultimate round of the season.
