In only his fourth match for the club since crossing from Essendon in the VFL, Mellington was unstoppable taking 11 marks and feasting on the dominance of teammates Lachie Smith and Jake Pallpratt further afield.
“Josh was really good for us,” coach Luke Morgan said aftert he match.
“He’s a quality player and it’s great to have him with us.
“It was a good solid win.
“The Echuca Bombers are on the improve and, while it wasn’t a flashy performance, it was good to get the points.”
While Mellington was best on ground, Smith wasn’t far behind after dragging down 16 marks and Pallpratt had 33 possessions.
Morgan and Nick Warnock also played well in Benalla’s 12th successive win of the season.
Benalla should regain Will Martiniello from a broken finger for this weekend’s clash against third-placed Kyabram.
