Lionel Masudi, who has been playing under-16s, sealed the deal when brought on late in the second half, ghosting across the top of the box before curling a left foot shot off the upright.
The three points almost certainly locks down a spot in the cup finals for City.
Caretaker game day coach Ant Maw said it was good to finish a tough week on a high.
“It was good to get a result after the past seven days,” he said.
“I couldn’t question the boys’ commitment and passion today and Peter Cominos was outstanding.
“He played a lot of his junior football here at City, went away to uni and has come back and today showed the sort of maturity and leadership we have been lacking.
“For all the boys it was just as important to keep a clean sheet.”
Maw, who also coaches the under-16 side, was full of praise for Masudi’s goal.
“It was a wonderful strike on his non-preferred side,” he said.
“Now we can go into the bye looking at playing finals before two big tests away against Diamonds and Boomers to finish the season.”
